I would like to update our customers and the community about the actions we have been taking since we became aware of the incident with our Poppyseed muffin.
In addition to cooperating fully with the FDA and the Washington Department of Agriculture, we immediately scheduled third party food safety audit with ASI Food Safety Consultants.
The results of this audit were excellent. We scored “Very Good” with a 93.72% score with no critical infractions.
Not withstanding this excellent result we are doubling our efforts in our internal communications and training for all areas of food safety policy. I believe in the men and women who work here and without exception we are all committed to earning the trust you have given us for the past 22 years.

On Sunday November 8th, an employee of my bakery, Mostly Muffins, used an unauthorized blade to open bags as he was preparing mixes for production. At the end of his shift, the blade was misplaced by the employee and he neglected to tell management. The blade was later discovered in an Almond Poppy seed muffin.
The investigation within our bakery resulted in the employee taking full responsibility for the incident. He assured us it was a singular incident and was sincerely sorry for not alerting us when this happened. He has been suspended indefinitely due to his actions. We assure you all Mostly Muffin products that are in the retail marketplace today are completely safe and free of any contamination. We regret this incident immensely and assure you that the products we sell are held to the highest quality and are safe to eat today and every day.
The following are the additional steps we are taking to regain your confidence:
1. A third party food safety audit conducted Monday November 16th
2. Rigorous retraining of all staff on Good Manufacturing Practices
3. All baked items are now screened by metal detector prior to shipping
For 22 years I have baked products for the local community. I started in the basement of a church with my best friend and we grew the company out of our love of baking, food and community. Our values are to make the best products using local ingredients in a clean happy environment. I assure you this will not happen again and my entire team is committed to becoming a better bakery due to this.
